Question

Configure the 3 beacons per the TG-BT5-IN research and prove a phone can see all three continuously.

Done when:

  • Each beacon has a unique ID, a known TX power, and the fastest advertising interval it supports.
  • A phone detects all three at once, and the observed update rate per beacon is recorded (a rate below ~1Hz makes any accuracy number meaningless).
  • Filtered RSSI at exactly 1m from each beacon is measured — the reference for any distance model, and per-beacon spread here is itself a finding.
  • Anything that makes them unusable for the bake-off is reported loudly and early, since it invalidates the BLE side of it.

Prerequisites established by #4 (part number corrected: TG-BT5-IN, not TG-BTS-IN):

  • Bring a magnet. Tags ship asleep — hold a magnet to the reed switch 3–10s to wake, then 5–10s more to enter config mode. Without one this ticket cannot start.
  • Config is phone-only, via the free MikroTik Beacon Manager app over BLE. No RouterOS device required (RouterOS cannot configure tags at all).
  • Set advertising interval to 100ms — the floor is 20ms, but the factory default is 5s, which is useless for positioning.
  • Battery is non-replaceable (220mAh). ~2–4 months at 100ms, extrapolated — check the app's on-device estimator and record what it says.
  • Geometry: 3 tags is the degenerate minimum. Place them as a fat triangle, never near-collinear. Consider buying 3 more (~$10) before the bake-off.
  • Expect 1.5–3m RSSI accuracy — set the gate in #11 accordingly; this is quadrant-level, not AR-grade pose.
